CPC’s MacCaption Software Allows Addition of Closed Captions to Video Delivered by Akamai’s Sola Sphere

Software and Delivery Environment Combination helps content owners and distributors meet new FCC regulations for closed captioning of online video.

Rockville, MD (PRWEB) December 14, 2012

CPC, the leader in file-based closed captioning software, today announced compatibility between the company’s MacCaption software and Akamai’s Sola Media Solutions. As a result, customers can be confident that IP video delivered via Akamai’s globally distributed platform can seamlessly incorporate closed captions generated by CPC technology. This positions broadcasters, government agencies and other content providers and owners to meet FCC, Section 508 or other government regulations that mandate closed captioning be included with content streamed via the web.

CPC’s MacCaption software automatically converts TV closed caption data to web closed caption data, which can then be streamed in HD quality by Akamai. This means that any organization with a large number of archived captioned video files can reduce captioning operational time and errors by using batch processing mode to convert all the files in a folder to desired web captioning formats. MacCaption software can also create captions from scratch.

The first installation of CPC’s captioning support was accomplished working with Chesapeake Systems, a leading video systems integrator. In this installation, CPC provided the new MP4 captioning for a major international television network that uses Akamai’s Sola Media Solutions for video streaming. Chesapeake was able to take advantage of MacCaption’s command line interface in order to fit the solution into an automated video compression and delivery workflow.

In addition to the Sola-compatible video captioning for iOS and Flash® streaming, CPC software also supports closed captioning for iTunes®, YouTube, DFXP, Web VTT, UltraViolet™, and SMPTE Timed Text 2052.

Caption Software vs. Captioning Service – Which works best for me?

Caption Software vs. Captioning Service – Which works best for me?

In the past, bringing closed captioning in-house wasn’t feasible for many organizations, due to the high cost of the necessary hardware and software –not to mention the specialized training required to run the system. Recent advances in affordable and easy-to-use closed captioning software encoders have made it possible for anyone to create their own closed captions, right from their NLE system. These advances have eliminated the need for expensive hardware and put closed captioning skills within the reach of content providers.

However, most organizations still hire a caption service provider to handle all of their captioning needs. With cost effective captioning software available, why would organizations want to use a captioning service?
